Although conventional treatment approaches such as medications and procedures exist, complementary and alternative therapies are exciting new developments that may alter the way we understand and ultimately treat medical conditions. We hope you will join us as Dr. Horwitz shares the latest discoveries about interventions that can help people manage pain and reduce inflammation.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 76.2 million people in the United States suffer from chronic pain. Chronic inflammation--which refers to when the body's natural healing process continues long after it is needed--can destroy healthy tissue, leading to pain and the development of major forms of arthritis. The CDC reports that arthritis affects 54.4 million US adults--more than 1 of 4--and is a major cause of chronic pain.
As chronic inflammation and pain are severe problems for many, the research and insight into alternative treatments that will be shared by Dr. Horwitz will bring to light groundbreaking advances and available treatment options.
About Dr. Horwitz
Dr. Horwitz received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois, and his PhD in Immunology and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University Hospitals (Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) studying rheumatologic disorders, followed by a three-year fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he specialized in asthma and allergic disease management. He then served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, and at the VA Medical Center, in Madison prior to coming to the University of Arizona. He also completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Dr. Horwitz provides integrative medical consultations to people with a variety of medical concerns, with a special interest in complementary and alternative therapies for arthritis, asthma and immunological/allergic diseases, as well as hepatitis and heart disease, among others. He is board certified in Integrative Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
Dr. Horwitz has been named to the prestigious 'Best Doctor's in America'. He is an affiliate of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology, the American Medical Writers Association, the Council of Biology Editors, the American Group on Educational Affairs, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and the Psychoneuroimmunology Research Society.
He has also been honored with the President's Award in the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching in the University of Arizona College of Medicine and is a member of the prestigious Advisory Board for Reader's Digest Health.
