DARC Article Receives Award Print E-mail

Arthritis Self-Management recently received the results of the 2011 National Health Information Awards, and an article written by David Wayne Smith, DEd, DABPS, FACFEI, Jeffrey Lisse, MD, Gina Corteza, and John Polle, BFA won an award. The article received a Merit award for “The Road to Becoming a Good Self-Advocate,” which appeared in the November/December 2010 issue. 

The National Health Information Awards is coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. According to the Center, there were just under 1,000 entries this year.

Dr. Szivek Receives Funding from Timmons Foundation Print E-mail
The Bess Spiva Timmons Foundation has awarded Dr. Szivek $4000 to support undergraduate research in the Orthopaedic Research Lab.  These funds will be used to pay high performing undergraduate students to carry out research on one of various Orthopaedic research topics including bone and cartilage regeneration, musculoskeletal rehabilitation or fracture repair.  This will help the lab develop treatments for patients with musculoskeletal diseases such as Arthritis.

Dr. Gall Profiled in Rheumatology News Print E-mail

Here is something you may not know about Dr. Eric P. Gall: He was involved with patients with tiger bites and bat bites when he was an army physician in Vietnam. Yet, he received his Bronze Star for something that he describes with typical understatement: "Epidemiologic investigation of serious disease outbreaks in less than ideal circumstances." Less than ideal circumstances is probably the mildest way to describe practicing medicine in a war zone where there are tigers roaming about. The entire article as featured in Rheumatology News.
